About us
We make boards in Ryglice, Poland
Woodcarver is a small workshop. For a few years now, a dozen or so people have been making cutting boards here. The kind we’d want to cut on ourselves.

It started in the kitchen
One day in the kitchen I thought it would be good to have a product of our own. A thicker, good-looking board that’s a pleasure to cut on.
I started selling in 2021. The warehouse was in a converted barn, and a few of us packed the parcels. For the first few years I packed them myself, every day. Those early seasons were carried largely by wooden sledges. A good, snowy winter let us buy our first proper machines in 2022. At last we could make the boards we wanted, in our own workshop.
Since then, production has grown step by step. So has the team.

What we make
Most of what we make is cutting boards, mainly oak end-grain boards. An end-grain board is made from many pieces of wood set with the fibres facing up. The blade slips between the wood fibres, which makes the board knife-friendly. Small marks from use are natural.
We also make tables to order, and wooden accessories for the kitchen and home. Almost everything we sell is made in Poland.
We make 50 to 100 boards a week. That’s not mass production. Every board goes through a quality check before it ships.

Who works here
There are a dozen or so of us: on the machines, in packing, in the office and on the phone. I’m proud of this team, and proud that we make something of our own, here in Poland. We want this to be a place where people can grow.

Production: where every board is made
The heart of Woodcarver is the joinery shop. Five people work there, and every board passes through the hands of several of them. An end-grain board is several dozen pieces of oak, glued so that the fibres stand upright. It takes several days of work before it goes into a parcel.

Inspection
01
Cutting
We cut the oak into strips and pick out pieces without defects.
02
Gluing
We glue the strips into a block, cut it crosswise and glue it a second time. That’s how the chequerboard is made.
03
Sanding
We level the surface and round off the corners and edges.
04
Oiling
We soak the board in oil so it’s ready for work in the kitchen.
05
Inspection
We inspect every board before it ships. Only then does it go to packing.
Returns
You have 60 days to return it.
Dispatch
We ship within 24 hours. We pack every parcel and send it straight from Ryglice.
