What you need to look after a wooden board
- Cutting board oil, 250 ml: 100% white mineral oil, USP grade, odourless and tasteless, safe for food contact
- Cutting board cleaning liquid, 500 ml: an Auralis spray for wooden, bamboo and plastic boards; it removes grease and helps neutralise odours after fish, onion or garlic
When to oil a board
A dry, matt or noticeably lighter surface means it is time for oil. Oil the board at least once a month, more often with daily use.
How to oil a board
- Wash the board and let it dry completely.
- Apply an even coat of oil with a cloth or sponge.
- Leave it for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off the excess.
- If the oil disappears quickly and the wood still looks dry, apply another coat once the first has soaked in.
After washing, dry the whole board straight away, including the underside and edges, and stand it upright in a well-ventilated place so that air can reach both sides.
