Board care
How to care for your end-grain board
This board came to you from Ryglice in Poland. It needs two things: washing after every use, and oil at least once a month.
After every use
Dry the whole board straight after washing, including the underside and edges.
Once a month
Oil the board at least once a month, and more often if you use it every day.
Never
Don’t put the board in the dishwasher.
Washing and drying
After each use, remove any food residue and wash the board with a soft sponge or cloth in warm water with a little mild washing-up liquid.
After contact with raw meat, fish or poultry, wash the board thoroughly straight away.
Don’t soak the board or wash it under a strong jet of water.
Dry the whole board straight after washing, including the underside and edges.
Stand it somewhere airy, ideally upright, so that air reaches both sides.
Don’t leave a wet board lying flat on the worktop. Uneven drying can cause stress and warping in the wood.
Oiling
Oil the board at least once a month, and more often if you use it every day. A dry, dull or noticeably lighter surface means it’s time for oil.
01
Using a cloth or sponge, apply an even coat of food-grade mineral oil to the clean, completely dry board.
02
Cover both sides, all the edges and any grooves.
03
Leave the oil for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off the excess.
04
If the oil disappears quickly and the wood still looks dry, apply another coat. Don’t add another coat until the wood has absorbed the previous one.
End grain soaks up more oil than a long-grain board. Regular oiling limits how much moisture gets in and helps keep the wood stable.
For extra protection, you can use a wax or wood cream made for wood that comes into contact with food.
Board oil
We recommend our board oil: 100% white mineral oil, safe for contact with food.

Your board
An end-grain board is made from many pieces of wood set with the fibres facing up. It needs regular care.
The blade slips between the wood fibres, which makes the board knife-friendly.
Small marks from use are natural.
A good board doesn’t stay perfect. Over time, it becomes yours.
